I'd be interested to see if there is a correlation between star sign and personality type. Please feel free to share your astrological goodness:

Aries (fire sign).

Not to rain on anyone's parade but does it seem apparent to anyone besides me that there is no correlation between star sign and Myers Briggs? In fact, am I alone in the observation that there is no correlation to anything about yourself and the alignment of the stars on the day you were born?

I agree that there is probably little to no correlation between MB and your sun sign, BUT BUT BUT, unfortunately astrology has taken a bad rap over all the crappy horoscopes that exist out there. If you really want to get down in it, have a professional reading from someone who knows what they're talking about (can interpret an astro chart completely and preferably has some background in mythology). There is SO much more to it than what your sun sign is. There are the signs all the planets are placed in, the houses they occupy and the aspects that they have to one another, it is QUITE more involved than what's superficially available. I am an astro-advocate, but you gotta look a little deeper to really use it as a tool and more than entertainment.
Thanks for pulling the cover off, Frani.

Sun in Leo, Moon in Libra * Ascendant in Cancer, Moon in the Fourth House * Venus in the First House * Venus Conjunct Ascendant * Saturn in the First House * Sun in the Second House * Moon in the Fourth House

born in the year of the Tiger.

I agree with Anitra. There are so many variables that a superficial survey of sun signs could not reveal a pattern.. BUT that doesn't mean there isn't a pattern elsewhere related to the stars. We develop in water until our births, and those conceived at the same time would undergo the same pressures at the same stages, varying by latitude and longitude. I believe it's uncharted territory (no pun intended). :) Also, one would have to debunk "nurture" in the nature vs. nurture argument that has been raging for decades to say there is absolutely no correlation.

            love to you all

Anitra, by the way, i love vedic astrology. Even though western astrology has corrected much of the error by adjusting the descrptions, vedic astrology seems much more ... well-managed over the ages. :)

Ok, but you do realize that your Sun sign is but just one aspect of your astrological make up. With out a complete chart, it would be impossible to find any correlation. And I can probably put together a number of different combinations that would result in an ENFP type personality.

I totally agree with this. there is no correlation at all. Actually, I've theorized that whoever came up w/ the horoscope and star signs was really just some misguided N, who saw the different personality types, but had no idea how to catagorize them. You can usually find one that fits you, and if it's not your sign, odds are it'll be your sun sign or your moon sign or your rising sun sign, or, well, you get the picture.

Now, we could tweak this a little and say which type do you think the above mentioned ancient guy made out of an ENFP.

          To that, I'd answer, Saggitarius.

Oh, and I'm a Capricorn, btw ;) Suposedly super money drivien and ambitious and, blech. lol.

Pisces with Libra rising & Gemini moon. I'm not too surprised to see there is no correlation. I only find Astrology interesting in that it's sort of a tool for self reflection (ie, seeing yourself in or lacking the characteristics supposedly displayed by your sign), not so much as an actual predictor of how a person will be based on the stars. It gets people talking about their inner attributes, so it's a catalyst rather than an oracle, to me.

I also see what the poster below (or above - I've no idea where this will end up) is saying regarding archetypes - maybe we see ourselves in some of the signs because they reflect basic human archetypes and qualities, and we are more predisposed to see those with which we identify.

For example, as a blatant ENFP, I have in the past tried to "reconcile" my out-there personality with the supposed meek, quiet characteristics of Pisces...some have tried to say that the discrepancy has to do with my rising sign or my moon sign...but when I think about it, three out of twelve signs and there's at least a 25% chance my personality matches one of them!

Scorpio although I'm not a very good Scorpio. I'm not private and jealous and I don't follow other traits of the sign either. I don't believe in astrology one bit but I think it's fun to play with it :)

            Gemini/Cancer cusp....

As to several earlier objections to the connection between astrology and personality type, I too would have agreed with you just a few yearas ago, but that was before I began my study of Jung and depth psychology. Jung spent quite a bit of time in the early nineteen-teens studying the "magic" of astrology (quite worrying Freud); furthermore, it is from his pioneering work that personality types are derived (ENFP, etc.)

My point is that Jung found some serious worth and value in at the very least the archetypes and unconscious material present in astrology, and, the more I study his various intellectual journeys, the more I see them as smaller pieces of an overarching whole. So, though the exact connection between astrology and personality types may be difficult to pin down, exactly, it seems fairly clear that each relies upon archetypes found in the collective unconscious that truly animate who and what we are and can be.

            Or something. ;)

but theres this great sight called "cafeastrology.com" and it tells about your "venus sign" and moon ect.
and my venus sign is Aries, and it sounds a lot more like me then Taurus does. Im more out-going, and not as sensual and luxury loving as all the taurus profiles describe but whatever~ Hey just to let my fellow ENFP's know, I love this tribe!! and we have a great personality i think!! YAY! love all you guys***

      Capricorn, totally earthy
but I will say that I have noticed a *strong* tendency for many of my best friends in life to be either *Aries* or *Scorpio*

rising sign I believe to be acquarious and beyond that you have got me stumped. Never had a good reading yet.

Gemini, with gemini moon and leo rising.

I do feel that I approach my relationships and personal life in an ENFP way, but in my work life I'm totally different. very pragmatic and direct. must be the other twin....

if we are going to look for a pattern, we should use our sidereal signs: where the planets actually are. the tropical calendar can be an entire sign off in many cases (not all)!

in tropical astrology: i'm a leo sun, libra moon, cancer rising

in sidereal astrology: my sun is actually in Cancer, my moon is actually in Virgo, and my ascendant is actually Virgo. my Mars is still in leo which is why i have some extroverted leo qualities.

:) you can go to the Sidereal Astrology tribe to find instructions for seeing your sidereal chart.
  • Cancer (cuspish with Gemini)
    Virgo Moon
    Virgo Rising

I think little of astrology, I think astrology details some very real personalities / archetypes - i just don't think the attribution of sign-personality CORRECTLY describes the charted person often enough for me to believe in it. and it's NOT because; i didn't try, don't think mystically, don't think metaphorically, think negatively, or have little ability to see long-range patterns.

Sure I do have some negative thinking rattling around my brain, but i love metaphors and have oodles of skill seeing meanings in things - but so do paranoid delusury schizophrenics!! such skills don't make you capable of reading the future.

Astrology seems designed for making a living. I fi say that a certain prognosis / horoscope doesn't jive with my sign or the stars today. "ah well that's because you didn't take into consideration all the planets and the houses and the quadrangles, triunes, etc. For 69.99 i can detail considerations around this factor... perhaps you get a chart done for every time you take a crap"

Well I say "fuck OFF Mr. Astrologer, it makes some kind of sense SOMEWHERE or it doesn't. if neither the art nor science of astrology inspires, entertains, educates, heals nor enlightens me - then stick your ephemeris in whatever equatorial latitude the sun didn't go direct to!!".

On different days i read different signs of a (relatively high quality*) horoscope and sometimes they all seem accurate from a certain point of view. (how ENFP of me!)

Last time i looked at a current ephemeris it didn't even accurately reflect current astronomical data like constallation positions or number of planets in the solar system!!

I feel a real change with seasons, weather, sun and moon phase but the stars seem too distant to have effected me at the time of birth MORE than my genetics, experience, parents style of raising me, blood chemistry, lovers, schooling, diet, choices, allegiance etc has effected me.

until it completely reinvents itself into something meaningful:
I call hella bullcrap on astrology!

Enneagrams, meyer's briggs, chinese medicine constitution diagnosis, I Ching, even that career typing thing i did in junior high - they all managed to hit the nail right on the head - and i believe they accurately reflected my personal reality as it was.

    Astrology is for the earwig-eating!!

    ENDRANT

Yes, Roland, this makes me POed, too. It is, indeed, a distrubing trend or trendy spirituality *bleh*. Real astrologers are rare. There are lots who are just typing stuff into computers and getting canned desciptions or cutting and pasting text and plagiarizing with no real insight.... and then to add insult to injury, they charge money for their snake oil. it annoys me no end.

but i don't believe it has to be that way, just for the sake of discourse.

i'm sorry, Roland, for crappy astrology and charletons. there is a lot of that out there for sure.

Been thinking about this. It seems that ENFPs have a wide variety of interests. What if it is not so much your astrological signs. What if instead, it is the patterns they make in your horoscope? Some people with narrow, focused interests will have all of their planets in 1/4 to 1/3 of their chart. People with a wide variey of interest tend to have a "splash" configuration in their charts. This means that their planets are scattered all around. To know if you have a splash configuration, you'd have to look at your horoscope. It would be interesting to know if this theory holds any water.

Not for me. I've got half my planets in Libra, including my sun, which is right next to my Pluto and my Mars. And I've got too many interests! It drives me mad! I would love to be focused on one or two, but I can't hold focus for long...

    Virgo

    the perfectionsit... yes, a bit,

But virgos... arent they supposed to be know for being hyper vigilant and anal.

    Not me...

When I think of a virgo I envision a women who is a conservative buissnes administrator, who gets up at 6 am every morning, neatly presses her pants suit puts on a pair of 100$ high heals, and carries a Coach purse, drinks her coffee, and follows her routein, while thinking about how she can organize her day around, work, and errands, the bills, while mentally checking off these tasks on the list as she goes along, obsessively trying not to forget anything.

    lol

      I did some calculations:

Look like cancer and gemeni are the top, with 8+ or 9+ people.

      but so arent aries-7 sag-6 scorpio-5,cap-4, tarus-4 virgo-4 leo-4 pieces had the lowest.

I may have forgetten some, because people list moon, sun, all these different things, not just one, so its confusing.
But those are the main signs, I dont see a pattern, it looks like if you took a survey you would get enough people from all types, besides I think its made up stuff anyway-

      peace.

      Ok here's a question...

If "ENFP" was one of the 12 signs, which one would it be?

I see alot of gemini, bit of scorpio and sum aries in the sense that we could be rather flighty, jumping 4rm one thing to another and getting bored easily (Gemini), Scorpio's feelin and deeply connecting/understanding ways, and the Aries because we have that child like enthusiasm and positive approach to life.

Astrologically, I'm a taurus sun, sco rising and cap moon, but my mercury and mars are both in gemini.

Cancer (July 16th), I thought there might be but after seeing the responses Im not sure. I do know this, if one reads the description of a Cancer, it sounds like an ENFP almost exactly. I am both, so very scary I think.
  • Re: Your star sign? Is there a pattern?

    Sun, December 21, 2008 - 12:47 PM
    Sun: Gemini
    Moon: Taurus
    Rising and Mercury in Cancer
    Mars in Leo

These seem to make up the essence of the ENFP personality in myself, but I think I'm slightly more logical than the typical NF, hence the Gemini.

Hey there, Stephanie. There is so much more to the personality (astrologically) than just the sun sign you were born under. You have to consider where all of the planets were when you were born, and what your rising sign is. ( What time of day you were born). The signs that I predict will pop up the most would be those which relate to film/photography/spirituality (Pisces), communication/versatility of talents/analytical skills (Gemini) and any other sign that has to do with caretaking and loving people (Virgo/Cancer). However, it does take a bit of an EGO to be an ENFP, and Aries pops into my head when I think of this. Haha. Again, though, I think it's a combination of things (just like ENFP is a blend) rather than one particular sign. I have an ENFP son who is an Aries, with a rising sign of Gemini. This puts his tenth house in Pisces where his Venus is (Libra traits for career). He has a moon in Libra, which also reflects his talent in the arts. I am an ENFP with sun, moon and rising sign as Virgo (I'm a triple) however, my moon is in the first house which gives me a lot of Cancer-like traits (first house defines personality) Also I have venus in Cancer. No wonder my favorite career of all time is being a mom! I also have a strong Pisces bent with my sun being in the 12th house and career sign is Gemini...which reflects me being a communicator (as well as my mercury conjunction to my sun which gives me Gemini traits) My Mars is in Pisces. By the way, seeing patterns is one of the talents of an ENFP! Keep looking!

    Cancer

That was my first question after reading the personality description too!! The correlation of cancer/ ENFP makes sense as we are ultra sensitive, and emotional beings.. therefore making it hard for us to ever make concrete decisions… as they are based on all on feeling/intuition..and generally not fact:)

    I hear ya sister…
